The K.E.P.A Youth Program is a tutoring and recreation program specializing in building youth confidence and growth mindset. Tutoring services include one on one and small group sessions designed to help students K-12 understand and complete academic assignments in reading, writing and math. Utilizing direct instruction, student learning profiles, and informal assessments, students also receive academic intervention in challenging subjects. Tutoring Services are available both in person and virtually.

Shanell Johnson is a 12 year Baltimore City Public Schools Special Education teacher and founder of K.E.P.A, LLC ( K.nowledge E.quals P.ower A.lways), a tutoring and recreation program for youth in Baltimore. She graduated with a Bachelor’s in Sociology from Lebanon Valley College, and a Master’s degree in Human Service Administration from University of Baltimore and Coppin State University collaboratively. Teaching middle grades in Baltimore City motivated her to start the K.E.P.A Youth Program to support students and families and offer personable and customized services to support student’s academic, social, emotional and physical wellness needs. She is Maryland State certified as an Advanced Professional Special Education Teacher and is actively teaching 5th and 6th grade Literacy and Math.

How Do I Access My Course?
STAR Learning Lab offers In-Person and Online/Hybrid Learning options. Depending on the course, your student will attend via one of these options.
Are There Prerequisites?
Most of STAR Learning Lab’s courses are equipped to handle students ranging in skill levels from Beginner to Advanced, therefore eliminating the need for course prerequisites.
Currently, only the Cybersecurity path has specific course prerequisites.
Are There Course Materials Required?
For In-Person Learning, STAR Learning Lab will provide the required materials and software needed. For Online Learning, only courses where we can provide the required software/materials online will be offered. The student will only need a Laptop/Tablet with a stable Internet connection to access the online course.
However, for courses such as Robotics and Photography, we recommend that the student purchases their own equipment so that learning/practice can continue at home!
